Cyonara is Our Recommended Liquid Lawn Insecticide

Hi, I’m Michael with Houston Grass. And today we’re talking about some of the products that we sell. In particular, in this video, I would like to talk about the Cyonara.

Cyonara is a liquid lawn insecticide that you apply by attaching the container to the end of your hose. You turn the water on, click this button, and spray it out. You would use this chemical for sod webworms, chinch bugs, and many other insects that damage Houston area lawns.

Do You Have Sod Webworms?

Some summers, we have sod webworms, some we don’t. I think it depends on how harsh a winter we have. If we have a harsh winter, it kills them off pretty well. They lay over in the thatch layer if we don’t have a very harsh winter.

The way you know you have them is you go out in your yard in the mornings, and it looks like somebody has done a lousy job weed-eating your yard down. You’ll have lush green grass as the most likely area of your lawn to be affected. Sod webworms look for the lushest greenest grass that they can find.

So if you’re doing your job and taking care of your yard, that’s where they go first, unfortunately. You’ll also see the tiny brown moths flying up out of your grass. Those moths flutter around, and as they do, they drop eggs in the grass. When those eggs hatch, a little worm is hatched, and those worms come out at night.

They come up and eat the tops, the good tender stuff off of your grass. That’s why it looks like somebody did a bad weed-eater job to your yard. You’ll also see the moths flying up out of your grass. It takes a couple of Cyonara applications to eliminate sod webworms.

Do You Have Chinch Bugs?

Cyonara is also an excellent product to kill chinch bugs if you see those appear in your yard in the summer. You know you have chinch bugs when it generally looks like you didn’t water very well or a sprinkler head is not getting an area. The chinch bugs feed on drought-stressed grass.

To identify chinch bugs, you get down on your hands and knees along the edges of the grass. You’ll see what looks like little gnats crawling around in your grass. Cyonara also does a good job killing chinch bugs. It’s a contact killer. So once you identify them, they’re relatively easy to kill.

How Many Applications?

I would do two applications minimum if I had sod webworms or the chinch bugs. Again, you just attach this to the end of your hose and click this.

I like to walk backward, so I’m not walking through the chemical and just kind of wave it back and forth as I walk slowly backward. It does a fantastic job.
