Summary of the “How to Cut Emerald Zoysia” Video
– How to cut Emerald Zoysia, or Cavalier Zoysia, or any of the fine-bladed Zoysias, to my knowledge?
Instead of a rotary mower, which is, I call a traditional-style mower, it has the blade that swings around like this, you really need to use a reel mower, which is what they use on the golf courses, has blades and it spins around really fast and clips the grass off.
I can tell you that the only way we mow the fine-bladed Zoysias at our farm is with a golf course mower. There are mowers that you can buy out there and lawn services, as well, that have those mowers. They’re very expensive and, therefore, hiring someone to come mow your yard that’s got one of those is going to be very expensive.
I know that there are people out there that use a traditional rotary-style mower to mow fine-bladed Zoysias, but in my opinion, some of grasses are so tough, the grass blades are so dense and the vegetation is so tough that you’re never going to make it look, it certainly won’t look as good as if you’re using a reel-style mower.
So that’s one of the drawbacks to the thin-bladed Zoysias, as opposed to like a Palisades Zoysia. It can be mowed with a regular rotary-style mower, and it’ll be fine. For whatever reason, it’s still really thick.
I don’t know if it’s just the composition of the grass, or what, but we encourage people to use Palisades Zoysia most of the time in a residential application, because it’s fairly easy to take care of and with a rotary-style mower, which is what people are willing to use most of the time.
