I ordered sod over the phone. Hillary (forgive me if I misspelled that) was very professional, courteous and helpful. I was not at home when two pallets were delivered. Based on information that I asked Hillary to note on my delivery ticket, the pallets were placed exactly where I wanted them. The sod was far and away beyond my expectations. The quality was/is outstanding. This was a very positive experience, although I must say, I am so glad that I do not lay sod for a living!!!!

People will ask us if they can lay sod over mulch or over wood chips left from grinding stumps. The answer depends on the percentage of wood chips compared to the percentage of topsoil under the sod. If it’s mostly topsoil, then you probably won’t have a problem. If it’s mostly wood chips, you probably will. You’ll need to get rid of as much of the wood and mulch as you possibly can.
Grass probably would grow on top of wood chips, but you’d have to water and fertilize more frequently and the grass just wouldn’t stay in as good a shape as it would if laid over topsoil. You’ll be better off if you remove the wood chips or mulch before you lay your sod. If there are any depressions left from removing the wood chips or grinding out tree stumps, make sure you fill them in with top soil.
