We Recommend Superturf as the Best Summer Fertilizer for Houston Area Lawns

Summary of the Superturf Summer Fertilizer Video

I’m Michael with Houston Grass, and today we want to talk about some of the summer fertilizers that we carry. We’ve done a video about the spring fertilizers – the Nitro-Phos Imperial Lawn Fertilizer, the Nitro-Phos Weed & Feed with Atrazine, and the Nitro-Phos Weed & Feed with Trimec.

I would like to talk about the Nitro-Phos Superturf Fertilizer. That would be what you would use in the late spring or early summer, probably May or June in the Houston area.

You can see that it’s a 19-4-10 combination and covers about 7,000 or 8,000 square feet. You want to make sure you put it out with a spreader and never just throw it out by hand.

How Superturf Is Different

It has two different types of fertilizer in it. The regular fertilizer with the quick release gives you a good green-up. Some of the fertilizer has a coating that lets the nitrogen in that fertilizer release slowly into the soil.

The reason for that slow-release fertilizer is so that you don’t get a big burst of nitrogen in the soil. That can burn the grass when we get into our Houston summers, and it gets really hot.

That tends to happen with some fertilizers. You give it a big boost of nitrogen all at once. You water it in, and then it can burn your grass. This Nitro-Phos Superturf Fertilizer has slow-release nitrogen in it so that it doesn’t do that.

It also will get you through most of the summer without having to fertilize again. So that is the Nitro-Phos Superturf Fertilizer here that we suggest for the summer months.
